Objectifs

Il faut définir les objectifs des catalogues

1. to show whether or not the library has a particular item or publication, issued under a certain name of the author or under a certain title;

2. to identify the author and the work represented by the item or publication, and to relate the various works of the author and the various editions and translations of the work.

Logique

Il faut définir une logique des règles de catalogage

Is the rule necessary? ...

a) whether it in fact furthered the objectives of the catalog

b) whether it was consistent with other rules, or

c) whether it was redundant in the sense of repeating a general rule for a specific case.
